As for the OP, yes, having kids is hypocritical, and JWs used to be harder on it. They have to allow these things to keep members, they can't completely sap the joy from life. Actually, ANYTHING 'normal' that JWs do can be hypocritical, like buying a house, insurance, a 401k, going to the movies/concert, it all belies that the end isn't literally 'just around the corner'. Even many die-hards must know this subconsciously.

Is it ethical to have children?
by joey jojo inthis was a news article recently in an australian newspaper that caught my eye.. the premise was that to have a child is to inflict an extra human being onto the world and also, to inflict the world (with all its problems) onto the child.. there is a lot to say about this but from jw point of view, i have always believed it to be incredibly hypocritical that jw's have children in 'this system'.
all my life at the meeting i heard how little time we have left, how sick the world is, how i was probably going to be persecuted and end up in a jail cell for being a jw.
why would anyone want to become parents in this situation, particularly if they are confident there is only 'a short time left'?.

I wish they would stop having kids. That way the JWs would die out within 100 years.
Exactly! That's where any "growth" is coming from. Our CO even admitted it at an assembly, 'Did you know that most people getting baptized are children?' Without them, it would screech to a halt, save for a few older and/or mentally ill people. Even most adults I know that 'came in to the truth' were exposed to JWs as a child, so not true converts.

Praying in the name of Michael the archangel instead of Jesus
by krismalone injust wondering what would happen if a brother saying a prayer in a meeting did it in the name of michael the archangel instead of closing the prayer with "jesus christ".
since jw's believe michael is jesus would he be counseled?
what if a brother used the name michael the archangel in their public talks instead of jesus?

Mind blown 😂 great point.
Technically, Michael is more accurate than Jesus in their own theology, as they say Michael is his heavenly name, where he is now. Even one of the songs said that, "In the heavens where as Michael he over Satan victory won".

New here...
by Jacobi inmy name is jacobi, i am a born-in but mentally out for more or less a decade at this point (although it was cradual) and about 40yo.
i don't want to say a lot about my family, but it is a mix of going-through-the-motions, semi-actives (but mentally in), some who have left for a few reasons and one really depressed pioneer.
because people fade in and out i have managed to slide under the radar and i keep up apperances of not being all-out apostate but i completed my fade about years ago (it also helped i moved to another part of the country).. i might rub some of you the wrong way because of my views on different things like politics.. i am not a trump supporter at all and neither are most people in my country.

Hi, welcome Jacobi. I too like to debate at times and don't always agree with everyone's opinion, but I'm fully capable of keeping it in its' place and switching it off, being kind and friendly. 🙋

They still manage to find me.
by blisterfeet ini grew up a jw, left at about 17 years old..(i'm 33 now) a little over a year ago i moved 1000 miles away from where i grew up.
today i "ran" into someone in the same congregation as my dad... like how is that even possible?!?!?
he was very kind, mentioned the borg but only in ways that related to his life.. his daughter is a pioneer, my dad gives "the best" comments at the meetings, my sister is awesome.. blah blah blah... .

The book burning has started
by pale.emperor indon't know if this is a global thing but i've just been told by a pimo member of my old congregation that a min servant has been given the task of destroying all old books/literature in the kh library prior to 1992.. could be the elders (or even one of them) on a mission to stamp out dissent as my ex-wife used the same reasoning to her elder dad that i used in my jc: rutherfords books containing failed predictions.. anyone else heared anything?.
the ms who's been given the task is a company man.
no hope of him keeping them or selling them on ebay.. they have some russell books in that library too.

There are PDFs online of virtually everything they've printed, so I guess the only value hard copies have now is in reverse witnessing. Show a JW a real book and they'll trust it. Show them an electronic version not from JWdotORG and it may be "apostate lies".

TBH we don't have to wait. Every one of us can swipe the important stuff in small quantities and discreetly right now . . . Because JWs never even USE the stuff, they're like relics that collect dust, they wouldn't even notice

When some Hall's in our state consolidated, my cong's library was boxed and bagged and taken away, never seen again. Not sure if it was trashed. I did manage to swipe some Studies in the Scriptures including the one with the pyramid charts. Wish I got the Millions brochure, that's one of the most damning of all, as well as the book with the 1975 chart. I wonder when they'll 'simplify' our current library.

Has the Governing Body EVER apologized for anything?
by Wild_Thing ingeoffrey jackson testified to the arc that the governing body has apologized for things in the past, so an apology to sexual abuse victims is "perceivable".
what has the governing body ever apologized for?.
22 q. just on that point, mr jackson, has the governing body23 considered apologising to survivors of child sexual abuse24 at the hands of elders within the organisation?25 a. i haven't been in any discussions with regard to that.26 27 q. is that something that you foresee might happen ‐ in 28 other words, that an apology at least be considered?29 a. the governing body has apologised on other matters, so30 for me to say ‐ i can't speak collectively for everybody, 31 but we have apologised on things in the past, in other32 areas, so it is perceivable.. .

Often the phrase "this publication once stated" is used when referring to major errors in the past, as if the magazine or books came up with the erroneous ideas by themselves!
'I put the wood into the fire . . .
and this calf came on out!'
